GRAPHIC DESIGN PROGRAM
The Graphic Design Program is a 12-month program that provides students with an introduction to the skills and employment opportunities available to an entry-level employee in the design field.
Based on the hands-on philosophy students have come to expect from Specs Howard School, the Graphic Design Program teaches students the basics of print and web design utilizing Adobe Creative Suite® Design Premium. Students alter images in Photoshop, draw images in Illustrator, animate in Flash, prepare layouts using InDesign, and create websites in Dreamweaver.
At the program’s end, graduates are awarded a diploma. They’ve also crafted cover letters and resumes, practiced interviewing, and have a portfolio of their best work to share with prospective employers.
All graphic design students are loaned a MacBook computer loaded with software to support the program as part of the Specs Howard Access to Resources for Education (SHARE) Program*.
In order to offer students a flexible schedule without sacrificing face-to-face contact with instructors and classmates, the program is a hybrid of on-campus and online classes. Students attend class in a traditional classroom and lab two days a week at our Southfield campus.
Students should expect to spend a minimum of six hours per week in their online classes. Online classes are delivered via an online learning management software system and may be accessed wherever an internet connection is available. The online classes are designed to allow students to engage in the material at their own pace. In addition, the nature of various design exercises and projects require substantial homework.
